Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer rock band member Scott Shriner, has regained her freedom after her run-in with authorities. The horrifying ordeal went down on Tuesday, April 8, with Lauren allegedly engaging in a shootout with the LAPD. A police scanner audio highlighted the incident, capturing cops responding to a hit-and-run crash. The incident occurred on the 134 Freeway around 3:30 PM, with three suspects fleeing.
One of the trio at large, a man stripped down to his boxers, fled to the surrounding Eagle Rock neighborhood. He ran into a backyard next door to Lauren and Shriner’s home. The suspect’s presence seemed to have sent off the alarm bells in Lauren’s head as she emerged with a gun. The police audio obtained by TMZ captured an officer noting a female had appeared with a handgun. Other responding officers confirmed seeing Lauren with the weapon before the situation escalated.
Scott Shriner’s Wife, Jillian Lauren, Allegedly Attacked Cops
The encounter between officers and Lauren wasn’t captured on audio. However, cops alleged the Everything You Ever Wanted author was hostile towards them. She, per their recollection, pointed her weapon at them and ignored several orders to disarm. Things took a turn for the worst when Lauren fired her gun at an officer.
In response, she was shot in the shoulder and reportedly retreated into her home. Reports confirmed authorities recovered a 9-millimeter handgun at the house. As for Lauren, she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. Then, she was arrested and booked on an attempted murder charge.
Lauren was held on a $1 million bond and later released. A source with direct knowledge noted Lauren’s husband, Shriner, was not home during the incident. They alleged he was at a work-related project. The man, who stripped down to his briefs, was arrested at the scene while the two other suspects remain at large.
Critics Take Cancer Battling Jillian Lauren’s Side in the Shooting Incident
The shooting drama made waves on X, with many siding with Lauren over authorities. These critics believed the system had failed the mother of two, with someone lamenting, “And the answer is always more guns for everyone.” Another echoed similar sentiments, writing:
“So a fleeing criminal who may be armed runs through her property, she arms herself to protect her home and family, and the cops shoot her?”
A third labeled the incident “tragic” and hoped the truth would come out. They also prayed that everyone involved got the support they needed. However, not everyone was a supporter, with one X user seemingly trolling Lauren. “I guess she won’t be attending Coachella this weekend,” they wrote. Their words referenced Shriner’s upcoming performance at the 2025 music festival with his Weezer rock band. Besides possibly missing out on Coachella, Lauren’s situation was heartbreaking for another reason.
A month before her arrest, the author revealed she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery. She shared a pre-op picture on March 4 alongside a lengthy caption, partly writing, “Yes, I have a little bit of the C word y’all. I know a lot of us do. I’m here to thank the incredible oncology team here, who pulled me through a complicated operation without a hitch.”
Jillian Lauren’s next court date is scheduled for April 30.
