After 10 long years of waiting, we finally got a glimpse of Grand Theft Auto VI. Although the official trailer was supposed to be released on December 5, 9 AM ET, someone leaked the trailer sooner and therefore Rockstar had no other choice than to publish the trailer officially. While the trailer may seem short, there is a lot of stuff going on. So, here is a thorough breakdown of the GTA 6 official trailer.
Breaking Down GTA 6 Trailer
The trailer starts with a view of Vice City and its gorgeous pinky sunset with the song Love is a Long Road by Tom Petty. The song itself is about how loving someone is a road full of ups and downs, which might be a clue to what to expect from the personal life of our new protagonists. As the trailer progresses we get to see the protagonists, Vice City, wildlife, parties, beaches, gangs, street racing, and of course a grand theft auto. So let’s breakdown what we saw in the trailer of GTA 6.
Meet the Protagonists – Lucia and Jason
As the rumors had already suggested, there will be two protagonists in GTA 6. A Latina-American woman named Lucia and her lover Jason whom we will meet later. This trailer put a lot of emphasis on Lucia, which probably means she will be the core character between the two and also the starting point of the game. It’s also worth noting that Lucia isn’t GTA‘s first female protagonist, as players could play as female characters in the first GTA game.
So, it’s safe to presume that the game will start with Lucia just getting out of jail. In the trailer, we see her joyriding, and attending parties until we reach the last part of the trailer where we see her with Jason robbing a small store. Like every other GTA game, we’ll probably see the rise and maybe fall of our new Bonny and Clyde.
Jason had only one word in the trailer but I couldn’t help but think that the voice was oddly similar to the voice of Troy Baker. We don’t know yet who the actors are and we’ll have to wait for the official announcement.
Welcome to the State of Leonida
That’s right, Vice City won’t be the only city we see in GTA VI. There are a couple of shots in the trailer that show highways that lead to other islands and cities around Vice City. Many players hoped that GTA 6 would bring the multiple cities design back and it seems Rockstar will deliver exactly that.
There is also the wildlife of Vice City that is quite similar to what we saw in Red Dead Redemption II. There’s a good chance that we’ll get a couple of missions involving wildlife similar to RDR2 and GTA 5. There were also a couple of interior shots from a disco and strip club. So, let’s hope we get more places to hang out and have fun aside from the main missions of the game.
Life of the Party
One of the main focuses of the GTA 6 trailer is all the footage we see posted on some sort of social media app, dubbed LifeInvader. We might see a much more in-depth internet and social media design inside GTA 6 that might even help us in some missions. For instance, finding someone by following their page to see where they are now.
Apart from that, we get to see a lot of parties in this trailer. Beach parties, disco parties, rooftop parties, and street parties. We are sure to attend some of these, but how much would that affect the story or reputation of our protagonists is something we cannot say for sure. But we might see a Respect System that as you progress through the game, higher and stronger gangs would want you to join their parties and do their dirty work.
City of Dreams, City of Gang
The last thing I noticed in the trailer of GTA 6 for this breakdown was all the different gangs we saw. For instance, there is the Thrillbilly Mud Club we see in one scene and High Rollerz in another. I’ve also noticed a biker gang that uses dirtbikes rather than choppers, which might be something only to be seen in Leonida.
Since there are different gangs, we are surely up for some good old-fashioned gang fights as well. I’m pretty sure there are a few more gangs we haven’t seen yet that might be revealed in future trailers.
That was everything that was shown in the trailer of GTA 6. With the official announcement of the game, we are bound to get more details and footage from now on, so make sure to check our website for the latest GTA content.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
