Things haven’t been going well for the American economy recently. The continuous changes are already putting a lot of people under pressure as they try to face the rising prices. So it is understandable why people got mad at a West Virginia politician. This West Virginia politician had a controversial opinion that ended up getting him dragged all over social media. This is reasonable because it wasn’t a good take like he might have thought it was. People need someone to defend them instead of saying irrational things.
The West Virginia politician is Republican Rep. Riley Moore. He defended Donald Trump’s newest trade war with China, as the two countries are exchanging tariffs back and forth. Moore claims that having higher tariffs on imported goods will be good for American families. Well, things aren’t exactly looking good right now. According to The Latin Times, Moore said, “We’re no longer going to barter [our children’s] future for cheap goods made in China.” He even suggested that America needs to “reorient” its economy so that it now depends on domestic goods. It’s safe to say that the West Virginia politician was dragged.
People Reacting to the West Virginia Politician’s Words
Someone shared what Moore said on Reddit, and people had a lot to say in response. One person wrote, “Imagine republican christmas and the kid unwrapping that box. Oh yay it’s the tariff I wanted!” One Redditor replied to this comment and said, “A message on the side of the box. Your Christmas present helped fuel Jeff Bezos yacht between 11:57:30 AM to 11:57:35 AM on December 23, 2025.”
Someone left another comment where they hinted that a lot of things they bought were made in China. “Just bought a carseat, guess where it’s made? The crib, guess? Clothes, toys, bibs, baby spoons, breast pump machine, bottles.. guess. Oh, and its [sic] all too f**king expensive as it is.” This means that people depend on Chinese products, which the West Virginia politician described as “cheap goods.” Well, according to that person, they aren’t cheap at all. Another agreed on the price element as they wrote, “I swear to God these imbeciles think that the only things China makes are dollar store knock-off GI Joes.”
The dragging of the West Virginia politician kept going on in the rest of the comments. He couldn’t catch a break, honestly. “Tell me you’re out of touch with your constituents without telling me you’re out of touch with your constituents….,” one Redditor wrote. Another saw that Moore was completely wrong, as they said, “Kids need a stable home and enough food to eat. Obliterating the American economy is not likely to further that goal.” Right now, the West Virginia politician’s words aren’t comforting. They couldn’t be further from the truth. A lot of people are already struggling, and now they will only struggle more. This tariff war will probably end in a bad way, and maybe then Moore will regret his words.
