We are only two episodes into the second season of HBO’s Westworld, but that has not stopped the announcement that we’ll be diving back into the park for a third go around. HBO, as well as several actors on the show, posted this announcement just yesterday:

Casey Bloys, HBO’s programming president, released the following statement to the Hollywood Reporter about Westworld‘s renewal for season three: “It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew. From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”
The third season of Westworld will be an important one for HBO; although no date has been announced yet for when the third season would begin, it will probably take quite some time. It took almost a year and a half after the finale of the first season until the premiere of the second season. Even if they shaved quite a bit of wait time off of that, that means that the third season of Westworld would almost assuredly premiere after HBO’s other big-budget drama, Game of Thrones, would air its final episode. Although there are a few different Game of Thrones spin-offs in the works, the timing would mean that Westworld would be the heavy lifter at the network for a decent stretch of time in 2019/2020.
To us, it’s doubtful that would be a problem. Westworld has an amazing cast, it’s beautiful to look at, and it has provided plenty of fan theory discussion. It would be nice if it did not have to play second fiddle to Game of Thrones for a short stretch. We will have continued reviews of Westworld‘s second season and any more news about the show as it becomes available.
