Texas community college student and Reddit user Big_Marzipan3904 had quite the misfortune while on their way to an exam. The test required a Scantron answer sheet, which students apparently had to supply themselves. But the real problem came just minutes before the exam, when the vending machine selling the forms decided Marzipan wasn’t getting theirs, leaving the Scantron stuck behind the glass.
Marzipan said they took a photo of the comically frustrating scene to show their professor later and prove they had bought but couldn’t receive their Scantron. But they also decided to upload it to r/mildlyinfuriating, sparking quite the discussion on Reddit. While buying Scantrons isn’t exactly new at universities, many people never had to. Then came the next shocker for many: a vending machine sells these test sheets.
Many Redditors Were Shocked at Vending Machine Selling Scantrons
“What in dystopian h christ am I looking at here?” demanded a commenter; over 20K upvoters wanted to know as well. “Wtf … kids are paying for Scantrons now? What are taxes even going to at this point?” exclaimed another. “Aren’t the schools required to provide Scantrons? For their stupid tests??? This is dystopian as hell,” agreed a third.
Buying your own Scantron isn’t necessarily unusual at a Texas community college, either. Some colleges in the state specifically tell students to bring a Scantron when an exam requires one. Several commenters said they remembered buying their own during college, though the vending machine still caught plenty of people by surprise.
“This is a whole new thing for me. I’ve never seen a test forms vending machine. I can’t decide if I’m officially old now or if schools are just the Wild West,” one Redditor remarked.
Fortunately, the vending machine didn’t end up costing Marzipan their exam. Another student came to the rescue with a spare Scantron, allowing them to take the test after all.
So, with only minutes to spare, the problem wasn’t paying for a Scantron after all. It was getting the vending machine to actually hand it over.
