Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader allows you to explore different planets about halfway through Chapter 2. During your travels, you can encounter System Seculo while charting a path through the Koronus Expanse. One planet contains a Bottomless Pit that has various effects depending on your interactions. Not all interactions are obvious from the beginning but you can boost stats and even get an achievement. Here’s what the Bottomless Pit does in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader and how you trigger the options.

You find the Bottomless Pit in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader while exploring System Seculo. It is found on the Jungle World planet, specifically Augur’s Anomaly after scanning the planet. When you land on Augur’s Anomaly, head towards the west side of the map to find a large and empty hole. That’s the Bottomless Pit that you can inspect and interact with.

There are some ruins near the Pit that you can inspect, unlocking the option to stretch your hand into the darkness. Go around the map and inspect the ruins in the center along with the carvings on the right for more options. Save before submitting because you can only interact with the pit once. Examine the pit and stretch your hand into the darkness, then submit to the pit’s will.

Submitting opens up options that allow you to gain various benefits, though quickly stepping away gets you a small amount of experience. You can flee or fight the monster; both options lead to the same outcome. The unique options are:

  • Resist the pit’s influence: Gain a small amount of experience.
  • Sacrifice your flesh in the ritual: Get the Champion of the Abyss talent.
  • Sacrifice a companion: The sacrificed companion temporarily leaves your party and gets the Champion of Darkness talent. You can also abandon the companion for 10 Heretical points.
  • End the ritual for good: Get the Champion of the Abyss talent.
  • Sacrifice the shadow creature: Get the Champion of the Abyss talent.
  • Talk to the entity: Get nothing.
