My Body author Emily Ratajkowski wants content and pics about her body put out on her own terms, a task she still struggles with years after the Celeste Barber drama. The model, 33, has been the subject of some controversial headlines since the release of her book, which condemns the objectification of her body and the reduction of a woman to her looks. So far, her activism in that sphere has yielded little. A major contributor to this has been the model’s choice of outfits and social media posts.
Emily Ratajkowski, known for her very racy pics which reveal generous amounts of skin, has learned to ignore such demeaning comments. Yet, sometimes, these slut-shamers manage to provoke a reaction from the icon. A recent post featuring the star strolling down the street wearing only an orange two-piece string bikini and red kicks got fans at it yet again.
The snap of the beauty modeling the new set from her Inamorata Woman swimwear line racked up mixed reactions. While most complimented her appearance, others shamed her for going without clothes yet again. Before long, commenters began making references to the Celeste Barber drama, which Emily Ratajkowski nipped in the bud last year. Reacting to the pics, one fan wrote,
“This is a clear invitation for @celestebarber. No other way to put it.”
Emily Ratajkowski Hits Back at Celeste Barber’s Belittling Pics
Celeste Barber, who has a thing for mimicking celebrity Instagram pics, crossed the line with Emily Ratajkowski back in 2021. Sharing a screenshot of the model striking a seductive pose for a revealing photoshoot, the comedian merged it with her intentionally less-flattering version of the shot. Her caption took a direct swing at Emily, who had just released her book, My Body, at the time. She wrote,
“We are sick of objectifying our bodies. Also, here’s my a**.”
The post forced the 33-year-old to block Celeste on the platform. Emily Ratajkowski addressed the saga two years later, saying exactly how she felt about such pics and the Celeste drama. Speaking on her podcast, High Low with EmRata, she quipped,
“This whole drama with Celeste has been blown out of proportion. In general, I find her to be really funny. But, [the] message I was trying to send to her was, ‘I just don’t want you to do this to me anymore.'”
While that was hardly Celeste’s first visual attack on Emily, the model explained that she simply wanted the freedom to do her thing in an industry that doesn’t protect women. However, with people like the comedian judging her and “picking on female influencers,” doing so remained a hassle. Hence, her decision to draw a line. Emily shared,
“I was like, I’m not giving her my consent for this joke anymore. It just landed at a specific time for me.”
Although Emily Ratajkowski’s reaction to Celeste’s mimicry of her pics kept the comedian off her case, she’s faced more criticism on other fronts. Earlier this year, the model once again came forward to slam her critics, referencing Piers Morgan labeling her a “global bimbo” back in 2017. Jumping on the Rose’s Turn trend on TikTok, she dedicated hers to those who “still call you a bimbo every time they see some cleavage,” despite having a best-selling book in her name. Emily certainly has a long way to go to drive home the message, and the putdown from co-celebs sure isn’t helping.
