If we were ranking character creators, Dragon’s Dogma 2 would definitely have a place on that list — likely in the top five. You can go hog wild with the sliders to create some rather beautiful (and hideous) characters, along with choosing not one but two names: the name itself and a moniker. However, the confusion lies there, with the moniker. What is its purpose? Do you need a moniker to play Dragon’s Dogma 2?
What Does a Moniker Do in Dragon’s Dogma 2? Explained
Simply put: a moniker is nothing more than a nickname for your character in Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you’re wringing your hands over what to pick, keep in mind monikers have no impact on gameplay. Just find one you like or one that fits your character. Oh, your Pawn gets one, too!
As far as its purpose is concerned, monikers are to act as a stand-in if your character, or your pawn, happens to have a name that’s inappropriate. So, if you decide to use less-than-stellar “gamer language,” Dragon’s Dogma 2 will use your moniker instead. It’s a simple yet effective profanity filter that was adopted from the first game.
Now, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has an entire system involving the Pawns, where yours can actually be summoned by other players. It’s a good way to earn Rift Crystals, as well as any gifts the player gives to them, assuming your Pawn did a good job. Luckily, even if your Pawn has to use its moniker, they can still be hired by other players.
