This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

For all the soldiers out there, Helldivers 2 provides them with many means to eliminate bugs and bots, and one of those is the Autocannon special weapon. Initially, it might not seem like the best gun to have around, but in truth, it is a great gun if it’s in the right hands. With a great rate of fire, fantastic damage potential, and the ability to reload it fast by yourself, you should consider calling in this weapon when diving into the Galactic War.

Initially, many might stay away from the Autocannon because it almost always needs a second player to reload or because it doesn’t penetrate armor, but there are other benefits. First of all, remember that this is a support weapon, meaning you need to call it in once you land. Once you have it, here’s where the fun begins.

The Autocannon in Helldivers 2 only penetrates light armor but has a huge damage potential. This means that fighting against bugs that spit acid or the Automatons that ride around a bipedal robot will be a breeze if you have this gun. Also, getting the hang of its recoil is important because it kicks like a mule. If you want to go trigger-happy and use it like an automatic rifle, you’ll have a hard time and lose a lot of ammunition.

Furthermore, this weapon works more like a horde-clearing gun. What does this mean? Well, since it penetrates light armor, you should use it whenever a bot ship or bug breach happens. You can take out most enemies with one shot and have other players reload for you. If not, you can do it alone. Just remember to carry the backpack once the weapon lands so you can reload it.

How To Get (& Use) Boosters in Helldivers 2

Overall, the Autocannon is a great weapon in Helldivers 2, but a very situational one. It won’t kill a Hulk or a Charger, but it can damage certain weak spots and let other players go in for the kill with an orbital strike or any other explosive stratagem. Ultimately, it is up to you to choose your favorite loadout, but we recommend bringing an autocannon when fighting due to how fun and fast it is to use.
