Starfall is an event in Sonic Frontiers that serves as an “open-world reset” and can occur randomly on any island after nightfall. The event starts with a cutscene displaying a meteor shower in the night sky, after which the fallen enemies Sonic has previously defeated will respawn. While the cutscene does not show it, items such as Rings will also be restored across the map. However, Starfall is more than a simple mass reset for the collectible items and enemies of the open world in Sonic Frontiers. Like in a scene from Super Mario Galaxy, colorful Star Pieces will begin to fall to the ground all around Sonic.
How Does Starfall Work in Sonic Frontiers
While the open-world reset of Starfall brings enemies and items back to the world, the main attraction of this event in Sonic Frontiers is the Star Pieces that shower the land. These shards from space can be picked to initiate a slot machine minigame in which every time a Star Piece is collected, the slots will spin once.

The slot machine of Starfall in Sonic Frontiers will display various icons, such as “Bar” or the Kocos found throughout the world. However, when players achieve a triple match for all three slots, they are rewarded with a Purple Coin. For those unfamiliar, Purple Coins are the currency used to borrow Big the Cat’s rod at his Fishing Spots accessed via Cyberspace Portals. Accordingly, Starfall is an excellent time to rapidly accumulate dozens or even hundreds of Purple Coin currency.
As mentioned above, Purple Coins in Sonic Frontiers will only be rewarded to players during Starfall if the three slots match. The chance that they will match is random, meaning there is no reason to collect a fallen Star Piece and wait for the result. Instead, players are encouraged to go as fast as possible, dashing across the terrain and collecting as many pieces as they can. An excellent way to keep one’s momentum during Starfall is to activate infinite Power Boost. This mechanic becomes available after reaching max Ring capacity and drawing an infinity symbol on the ground with Cyloop. With infinite Power Boost active, players will be able to collect hundreds of Star Pieces and Purple Coins in no time.
Sonic Frontiers is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
