Players get to return to New York City as their favorite pair of web-slinging heroes in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The developers at Insomniac painstakingly recreated NYC for this highly anticipated follow-up. The buildings on display for the game are truly mesmerizing. You can get lost simply by looking up every tall tower. Insomniac got the rights to use accurate depictions of many iconic buildings from New York in the game. Out of the dozens of skyscrapers covering the cityscape, which is the tallest building in New York City in Spider-Man 2?
The Tallest Tower in New York in Spider-Man 2
There are many tall buildings in Spider-Man 2, with many structures inspired by iconography from Marvel Comics. If you swing around long enough, you will spot Doctor Strang’s Sanctum Sanctorum on Bleecker Streater. The game most noticeably has the Avengers Towers located in the Upper East Region of the map, sitting at 425 meters tall. It’s one of the most striking and tallest landmarks in Spider-Man 2.
However, the Avengers Tower isn’t the tallest building in Spider-Man 2. The tallest building in New York in real life is the One World Trade Center, which sits at 1,776 feet tall. The One World Trade Center replaced the World Trade Center and surpassed the heights of the tallest buildings in New York in 2013. The actual One World Trade Center doesn’t exist in the world of Spider-Man and is instead replaced by the Freedom Building.
The Freedom Tower’s design is heavily based on the One World Trade Center but isn’t the actual building. Insomniac didn’t have the right to use the likeness of the structure and instead used a copycat that represented the same thing. The tower sits 449 meters tall in the game, surpassing the Empire State Building and the Avengers Tower.
Nonetheless, the Freedom Building is shorter than the real-life One World Trade Center, which sits at 541 meters tall. Also, Avengers Tower is the tallest Landmark in Spider-Man 2. The Freedom Tower does not count as a Landmark.
