Sometimes, too much technology can be a bad thing for humanity. Atomic Heart proves that point rather well with Thought Devices. Touted as the next step in our technological evolution, these devices are seen as cell phones with a science fiction twist. But they are not as helpful as they seem, at least not in a good way. We’ll talk all about Thought Devices in Atomic Heart such as their uses and true purposes.

Thought Device in Atomic Heart – Explained
From the start of Atomic Heart, you’ll learn about the massive technological advances the Soviet Union made. Much of this is seen with Thought Devices.
So, what is a Thought Device in Atomic Heart? It is a piece of technology you wear on your head. Specifically, on your temple, as shown in the screenshot above. On P-3, this device is instead in his hand. In the game, it allows for incredible feats of communication. You can speak across impressive distances with others with ease.
Also, if a person dies, the device still allows them to communicate for a brief period of time afterward. This is how you can speak with the dead for useful information in the game. Creepy? Perhaps. Cool? Yes.
This design of the Thought Device in Atomic Heart is thanks to Kollectiv 1.0. Kollectiv 1.0 is an integrated system originally created to place robots in a controlled network. With the Thought Device, people can sync with Kollectiv 1.0 and also control robots.
At the current point in the game, people are preparing for Kollectiv 2.0. It’s widely believed that this latest update will give everyone in the USSR and around the world a personal Thought Device. The government claims it is only to connect everyone into a single system with robots.
Of course, that is the official story. The real story of the Thought Device in Atomic Heart is unfortunately far more sinister than that.

What makes this tale unfortunate is that it is indeed true that the Thought Device can allow for all the above statements to occur in Atomic Heart. You can speak to the dead. You can manipulate and control robots.
However, there is one catch: with the Kollectiv 2.0 rollout, humans will lose their autonomy.
The purpose of the device is to control the human body while sending its mind off to “Limbo”. Also, thanks to the Polymer injections people are getting, they believe they can remove the device. Unfortunately, that belief is pushed via the injections. They are unable to remove the device with Kollectiv 2.0 because their autonomy will be snatched from them.
And that is the gist of what the Thought Device is in the game. So, dive into the game to discover all the endings.
Atomic Heart is available on PC, PS5 and PS4 consoles, and
