Martha Stewart put her prowess as a lifestyle enthusiast to good use during a recent remodeling of her living room, but the home decor is stirring the dust. This week, the 82-year-old took to Instagram to share a photo of her latest project, giving her 2 million followers a look at her rustic living space with coordinating neutral colors. Ultimately, the lifestyle queen did not receive the expected accolades, as most fans turned to the comment section to criticize her creative work.
Several commenters pointed out that the home decor Martha Stewart opted for appeared nothing like a living room. They criticized everything about the living space, from the lack of colors to the choice of furniture. The arrangement also came under question, with one fan noting that it looked more like a furniture showroom, while another wondered if it was a living room setting or a coffee shop. However, Martha isn’t one to let her work get dragged in the mud.
Martha Stewart Hits Back at Critics Slamming Her Home Decor
The lifestyle queen shared another pic of the living room, along with a lengthy caption firing back at the critics a few hours later. The star explained how she rarely went through comments after a post. However, the excitement of the transformation of her Maine living room prompted Martha Stewart to read the comments after sharing the home decor. To her surprise, most of the comments comprised “harsh judgments” from fans.
Martha Stewart proceeded to explain how she and her Maine helpers achieved the living room transformation in just three hours. The process involved moving out the old furniture and bringing the new ones in. Martha admitted it pleased them to know the new pieces “fit the room” and turned out “proportionate to the size of the space.” She further clarified that she and her Maine helpers achieved the look with no decorator’s professional installation, adding,
“It was an attempt to change quickly and efficiently Making a house a home, or a room a beautiful livable space takes a lot more than three hours Of course there will be color, plants, mirrors, a new rug or two and other art and objects Stay tuned!!!!”
In her initial home decor post from July 3, Martha Stewart revealed she rearranged the living room furniture to fit her more comfortable lifestyle. She also explained the origin of some of the decorative inclusions added to the arrangement, mostly repurposed from a previous apartment or possession. Admittedly, she loved the finished look, with its rustic yet elegant charm. Hence, regardless of the opinion of the naysayers, Martha has full confidence in her work and remains her biggest cheerleader.
