Get ready your lightsaber Star Wars fans, Ahsoka is on its way to Disney Plus. The new series will follow Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, who is reprising her role from The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett. Of course, we were first introduced to the character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, back when she was Anakin Skywalkerโ€™s Padawan. But her appearances in live-action portray her as an older and wiser character who aided the Rebellion from the shadows. As she has appeared in both animated shows and live-action, you might be wondering exactly when is Ahsoka set in the Star Wars timeline.ย

When Is Ahsoka Set in the Star Wars Timeline? Explained

If you wanted to know the exact year the show will take place you will be disappointed. There has been nothing released that nails down the exact year on the Star Wars timeline that Ahsoka will be set. We can, however, narrow it down based on a few different factors, starting with the obvious. Ahsoka takes place after both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. The series will see Ahsoka and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) go up against Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) who was last seen with Ezra Bridger in Rebels.ย

As the series deals with events directly from Rebels, we know it takes place after the show, specifically after 1 BBY. We can narrow it down even further because of The Mandalorian. We know that in the second season of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka was still looking for Thrawn, assumedly without the help of Sabine. Furthermore, an episode in the third season, Chapter 23: The Spies, makes reference to Thrawnโ€™s upcoming return. So, the events of Ahsoka havenโ€™t occurred yet, as he is obviously making his return in that show.ย

The Mandalorian takes place after the original Star Wars trilogy because the officials that Din Djarin deals with are from The New Republic, which was established in 5 ABY after Return of the Jedi. The show begins five years later so we are at least in 10 ABY, and we are actually somewhere closer to 11 ABY or 12 ABY. We know this because the creator of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau, caused some confusion when the third season was released. So, while we donโ€™t know officially, we can infer that Ahsoka is set around 11 ABY, during The New Republic. That isn’t the only thing we don’t know officially.

Where Was Ahsoka During the Original SW Trilogy?

Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly what Ahsoka was doing during the original trilogy, as much of what we do know comes from either the original trilogy itself or the comics. Since she wasn’t featured in either, it’s hard to nail down exactly where she was or what she was doing. We don’t actually know where she was from when she last appeared in Rebels, until her appearance in the second season of The Mandalorian.

Of course, all will presumably be revealed later this month when Ahsoka has its two-episode debut on Aug. 23, 2023. That wraps up everything you should need to know about when Ahsoka is set in the Star Wars timeline. For more on the show, keep it locked to The Nerd Stash.
