In May of last year, Nightdive Studios finally released the remake of System Shock to PC after years of delays and setbacks. Unfortunately, the PC release still left console gamers out in the cold vacuum of space, and many fans were wondering when the remake of the 1994 game would be available on more platforms than just PC. Thankfully, the wait is over. Nightdive Studios has officially announced that the remake of System Shock will be coming to consoles in less than two months from now. The console remake will also include some brand-new, never-before-seen features.

Released in 1994 for PC, Mac, and MS-DOS, System Shock was a first-person action-adventure game that puts the players in the shoes of a nameless hacker aboard Citadel Station, a space station in 2072. The player is tasked with thwarting the evil plans of a rogue AI called SHODAN. The game’s 3D graphics and physics engine were innovative at its release, and it’s aged enough to spawn a Kickstarter for a remake in 2016.

After raising over $1,300,000, Nightdive Studios announced that a System Shock remake would be coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux in 2018. However, production was delayed in 2018, then again in 2020, and the remake that was released last year was only for PCs. Given the multiple delays that affected the first release of the remake, console gamers may have been concerned that they wouldn’t have seen their own version of System Shock for a few more years yet, but Nightdive has just announced some good news.

The System Shock remake will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on May 21st. According to Nightdive, the console version of the remake will include “new features” and a reworked version of the game’s ending. While it’s not entirely clear what that means just yet, be sure to mark your calendars for May for System Shock remake’s release on console.
