Year after year, Minecraft hosts a mob vote where players can choose what will be the next item featured in the game. During the Minecraft Live live stream, the winner was announced and everyone can now expect the Armadillo to be joining the game soon. This small, brown animal that resembles a boxy kangaroo won against other exciting animals including the crab and the penguin. The latter two didn’t make the cut, so we’re all waiting to find out when exactly the armadillo will be added to Minecraft.
Is There a Minecraft Armadillo Release Date? Explained
The armadillo will be available to use in Minecraft starting with the 1.21 update. Unfortunately, there is no official release date for when this update is set to launch. However, it’s reasonable to assume that we should expect to see the update sometime during the summer of 2024. More specifically, you might want to set your calendars for June as the 1.19 and 1.20 updates were made around that time in previous years.
What Can Armadillos Be Used For?
When the armadillo becomes available, you will be able to find one in the Savannah biome. If you try to attack it, it will roll up into a blocky ball to try and protect itself. When you defeat it, it will drop a special scute that can then be used to craft armor for your wolf. This works just the same as if you were putting armor on your horse but for your wolf instead.
Will The Penguin And Crab Be Added Too?
Only the winner of the mob vote gets to be added to the game come the following update. Unfortunately, that means that we won’t be seeing the penguin or the crab. What we don’t know is if these animals will ever be featured in a future update of Minecraft. Mojang does an incredible job of ensuring that the world of Minecraft is vast and unique, with all sort of different flora and fauna, so there’s really no telling if these animals will be eventually added.
There was a time when there weren’t even horses or wolves in the game to begin with, so the addition of any new animal with a purpose is an exciting prospect.
Minecraft is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Android, and iOS.
