While exploring the Palpagos Islands, you might come across the Deserted Islet just east of the Isle of Murmurs. It looks abandoned at first glance, but an Ancient Civilization Researcher is waiting there with a quest. Completing his errand will lead to Panthalus, the legendary Ocean King introduced in the Palworld 1.0 update. To catch it, however, you’ll first need to collect four Echobones and craft the Echoing Flute. Here’s where to find every Echobone and how to summon Panthalus.

To catch Panthalus, you’ll first need to craft the Echoing Flute by collecting all four Echobones. You can actually collect the Echobones before speaking to the Ancient Civilization Researcher. But talking to him first triggers the ‘Panthalus’ mission and marks every Echobone location on your map, making the hunt much easier.

  • Marine Echobone: Coordinate 122, -525.

The first Echobone sits atop the skull of a gigantic sea creature skeleton west of the Hill of Beginning and Grassy Behemoth Hills fast travel points. Climb — or fly — on top of the skull and interact with the glowing pillar to collect it.

  • Seafoam Echobone: Coordinate -519, -548.

Fast travel to the Eternal Pyre Tower Entrance, then head east until you spot another massive skeleton partially buried in the volcanic terrain. Walk inside its skull to find the glowing pillar. You can also go to the Scorched Obsidian Watchtower fast travel point and look to the south to instantly find the skeleton.

  • Silent Echobone: Coordinate 356, -110.

The third Echobone is just a short walk from the Altar of the Wind Caller fast travel point. Enter the skeleton’s skull and interact with the glowing pillar. Watch out for the Level 55 Jormuntide patrolling the nearby coastline. It’s a passive Pal, but getting too close can still turn your treasure hunt into an unwanted boss fight.

  • Tidewind Echobone: Coordinate -262, 485

The final Echobone is west of the Land of Absolute Zero fast travel point. Head to the nearby skeleton, step inside the skull, and interact with the glowing pillar to collect the last piece.

Now, head back to your nearest Base and craft the Echoing Flute using the Faded Schematic the Ancient Civilization Researcher gives you and all four Echobones. Any Workbench works — even the basic, Primitive one — so you don’t have to unlock the Ancient Workbench just for this. If you haven’t obtained the schematic yet, visit the Researcher on the Deserted Islet and accept his mission first.

With the Echoing Flute crafted, return to the Researcher. He’ll ask you to play it at the shrine beside him, which immediately summons Level 70 Panthalus with 350,000 health. Make sure you’ve stocked up on your best gear and Pals before activating the shrine and triggering the boss fight by holding the Interact button.

Panthalus is a Water-element Pal, so bring powerful flying Electric-type Pals, like Helzephyr Lux or Beakon, to exploit its weakness. Aim your attacks at its body, as it is its weak point. Equipping a Ring of Mercy is highly recommended so you don’t accidentally finish it off before you can catch it.

Once Panthalus’s health is low enough, throw any Pal Sphere to capture it. The catch is guaranteed, so there’s no need to waste your Ultra or Legendary Spheres. After the capture, speak with the Ancient Civilization Researcher one last time to complete the mission.

A caught Panthalus comes with the Resonant Guardian Partner Skill. The Pal can be ridden as a flying mount, and when assigned to a Base, it’ll patrol the skies and bombard hostile intruders from above.
