Sooner or later, Nightingale players will need to find and get an Elder Eoten Heart to complete the game’s main quest. Nellie Bly will task you to collect several items for the Portal Stabiliser Component, including the Heart. Discovering these ancient magical living trees won’t be a walk in the park as they don’t have a fixed spawning spot. Nevertheless, the game is generous enough to give Planewalkers several hints and tools to uncover their hiding locations. You can even get their Heart without having to fight the monster.

How Can You Locate an Elder Eoten in Nightingale?

Elder Eoten can only be found in a Forest Hunt Realm, however the Apex creature spawns randomly. That means you will need to open a Portal using the Forest Realm and the Hunt Major Card and hope for the best. Thankfully, you don’t have to run around like a headless chicken, three guaranteed methods exist to track down the elusive Elder Eoten.

1. Look for an Offering Altar

Eoten, both the normal version and the Elder ones, will put up an Offering Altar near their resting spot to trade with any willing Realmtravelers. The Altar is shaped like a pedestal made of tree roots with flowers growing on it.

If you see one, then an Eoten should be very close. Observe your surroundings carefully; if the boss health bar pops up and you see a very thick tree nearby, then you’ve hit the jackpot. But if all you see is a thin tree then there’s a big chance that it’s not a Nightingale Elder Eoten. Offering something the Eoten likes at the Altar will also make them shake, so try giving them things!

2. Use the Track Legend Enchantment

Tracking Elder Eoten in Nightingale can be made easy with a specific Enchantment. This active ability can only be given to Tools like a Hunting Knife, Pickaxe, or Sickle, though. You can buy the Track Legend Enchantment from the Desert Provisioner Essence Trader. Otherwise, you can also craft it using:

  • Moderate Human Seal x1
  • T1 Essence x30
  • Flower x1

This enchantment reveals the nearest path to the closest Fabled or Apex creature. At the termination of the path, the enchantment will point toward the creature.

3. Explore Forest Hunt Until Elder Eoten’s Health Bar Appears

Lastly, you can try slowly exploring the Forest Hunt Realm until the boss’s health bar shows up on your screen. When you’re near an Apex creature their health bar will always pops up. This can be used as an indicator of Elder Eoten’s appearance. Looking around through the Spyglass can also make bosses’ name and their levels appear, as demonstrated by Elliot Rosewater’s video below.

If you still can’t find an Elder Eoten, try resetting the Portal or your Nightingale game. Doing so should force the game to respawn NPCs and creatures on the map.

Like finding an Elder Eoten, there are two surefire ways to acquire their Hearts. One can be done peacefully while you have to bring your best gear for the other.

1. Trade With the Elder Eoten Through the Offering Altar

As mentioned above, the Offering Altar’s main purpose is to let you “trade” with an Eoten. If they like your gift, they’ll hand over one of their Elder Eoten Hearts. If they don’t like it, though, the Eoten will wake up from their slumber and attack you.

More often than not, Eoten hates being given anything made from wood like Sticks or Wood Bundles. Meanwhile, you can appease them by offering a Ritual Fabled Meat, which ensures you get one Eoten Heart. For some reason, handing over Elder Eoten Wood will also give rare building materials.

2. Kill an Elder Eoten and Loot It

Sometimes, violence is the only answer. You can attack and kill an Elder Eoten in Nightingale to get their Hearts if you have the gear and the guts. Although Elder Eoten isn’t particularly fast, the Apex creature is huge and hits hard. We suggest you target the blue orbs, aka the Hearts, on their roots and branches using Fire weapons which will deal massive damage. Killing an Elder Eoten and chopping its remains with an Axe should yield at least two Eoten Hearts.
