You can discover Oil nodes all around the island in Ark: Survival Ascended, so you have plenty of areas to search for the resource. One of the things you can do is head into the ocean with a water-based creature like the Basilosaurus. You can also use some scuba gear and a reliable oxygen tank if you have them.
Another option is to head to the snowy area north on the map. Don’t forget your fur armor and weapons. We’ve also learned the hard way that it pays to build a small shelter if you plan to farm, as the elements can kill you faster than the creatures. But it’s here where things get tricky. From far away, all the rocks look the same. So, you should get up close and personal to notice that Oil nodes have lines on them.
If you’re not in the mood to dive underwater or brave the dangerous creatures and cold from the snow area, you can always kill some dinos for Oil in Ark: Survival Ascended. The creatures listed below can offer Oil as loot:
- Basilosaurus
- Leech
- Trilobite
Basilosaurus are simple to encounter in the ocean. Next up are Leeches. There are quite a few in the watery areas surrounding the Pack Cave base area (68.2, 56.1), and some are found east of the Green Obelisk base spot (58.9,72.3). For Trilobites, they’re just as plentiful, if not more so, than Basilosaurus in the ocean.
