During Chapter 1 in Frostpunk 2, you must ensure the survival of New London by keeping the heat generator running. Unfortunately, this beast of a machine requires a ton of fuel, and there are not enough coals in your nearby areas. If you want to survive the winter, you have to find a permanent source of fuel in Frostpunk 2, which is Oil. Of course, you should already be familiar with this resource since you need it to complete the Prologue.
While the main goal of Prologue is to gather enough food to survive the Whiteout, you need a permanent source of fuel in Frostpunk 2‘s Chapter 1. You will be racing against time since the number of Coal deposits near your city is limited. The problem is there are no oil deposits near you, and you have to venture into Frostland to find them.
In order to access this overworld map, you need to build a Logistics District above an Old Waystation. There are two of them in this Chapter, but you only need to make one for now. Here are the resources you need to create this District:
- Workforce x400
- Heatstamps x40
- Prefabs x200
Each Logistics District can provide 15 Frostland Teams, this is initially enough to discover the Oil deposits. I believe the location of the permanent source of fuel is randomized for each player. In my playthrough, I found it by heading east, but I’ve seen a post from other players who discovered it north.
I suggest just exploring all the Safe regions nearby. Your goal is to find the Camp Remains point of interest. It will tell you the exact location of the Old Dreadnaught, and for me, it was on the Desolate Coast.
Once you find your permanent source of fuel, you will need to send some people to maintain it. At this point, you must build the second Logistics District since you need 20 Frostland Teams to establish a colony. After that’s done, you can start harvesting Oil in this region and then transfer it to New London.
