Each type of Pikmin in Pikmin 4 is unique and can be helpful for different purposes. In Pikmin 4, you can freeze enemies and slow them down. However, this type does not deal much damage. However, you need Ice Pikmin to solve specific puzzles, as these Pikmin can completely freeze bodies of water. To grow them at your base, you will need Ice Onion.

Ice Pikmin Onion is the plant from which Ice Pikmin grows. If you can find it and drag it to your base. Then your Onion will receive an additional color. As a result, you will be able to grow Ice Pikmin yourself. Until then, you’ll have to search the caves for Ice Pikmin.

Although you can find Ice Pikmin early in Sun-Speckled Terrace, you can only collect their Onions in the Hero’s Hideaway area. This is the 4th area in the game, so you will have to progress the main campaign to reach there.

In Hero’s Hideaway, you have to explore the first floor of the house. It has many different treasures, enemies, and secrets, including Ice Onion. This Onion is to the north of the map on one of the tables. Here’s what you need to do to find Ice Onion in Pikmin 4:

  1. Climb up on the flying platform to the countertop in the kitchen.
  2. Go to the right side and reach the stove; one of the burners is a cave called Frozen Inferno.
  3. Clear every sublevel in this cave to exit on the platform next to the slab and jump down to Ice Onion.
  4. Break the ice, and use 30 or more Pikmin to carry the blue Onion to the base.

After that, you will no longer have to look for these Pikmin in the frost caverns.
