Collecting shiny gems comes naturally in Disney Dreamlight Valley. They’re great for selling, especially if you find the pricier ones. But some have specific purposes in crafting recipes and quests, which makes saving them far more important than giving them to Goofy. Tourmaline is one of those gems, and its location is only found in two Dreamlight Valley biomes. You’ll need a few to complete quests and craft specific items.

Tourmaline Location in Dreamlight Valley
Tourmaline is a pretty pink gem you can mine from rock nodes like the other gems in Dreamlight Valley, and the biomes you can search for it include:
- Frosted Heights
- Sunlit Plateau
So, grab your pickaxe and prepare to get to work. The only time there’s a guarantee that a gem will pop out of the rock nodes is if you visibly see them. Otherwise, it’s random. If it’s your first time visiting either of these biomes, there’s a strong possibility you’ll find the gem shortly. If not, simply keep returning as the rock nodes respawn and check back.
Of course, you must unlock the biomes before you can mine Tourmaline in Dreamlight Valley. Unlocking the Sunlit Plateau costs 7,000 Dreamlight and Frosted Heights costs 10,000 Dreamlight.
Between them, I’d strongly recommend unlocking the Sunlit Plateau first. It’s more affordable, and it’s common to save Frosted Heights for last. This can help you get to the Tourmaline faster so you can use it.
Uses For Tourmaline
Tourmaline is a requirement for two Dreamlight Valley quests: Fire Alarm (Fairy Godmother) and The Secret Door (Mickey)
For the Fairy Godmother, the quest unlocks at Friendship Level 2. Tourmaline is used here to craft the Icy Enchantment. The entire recipe is listed below:
- Tourmaline x3
- Empty Vial x1
- Dream Shard x5
- Purple Impatiens x5
- Snowball x15
For Mickey’s quest, simply place the Tourmaline inside a hidden Secret Door. Additionally, Tourmaline is used to craft a variety of optional Dreamlight Valley items:
- DJ Booth Ring
- Gem & Opal Road
- Gem & Opal Road with Border
- Round Lamppost with Pink Light
- Round Pink Three-Pronged Lamppost
- Wooden Lamppost with Pink Light
Once you’ve gotten your fill of the lovely pink gem, you can indeed sell it to Goofy and earn 420 Star Coins. If you snag a Shiny Tourmaline while mining, you can get a nice 1,680 Star Coins for it.
