A White man in Georgia is accused of yelling racial slurs during a family gathering before returning later with a gun and opening fire on people at the event.
In a TikTok video, the family said they had gathered to celebrate their grandmother’s birthday. According to their account, at the end of the reunion, a man, later identified as Jeffrey Tyler Kinzer, drove by and yelled racial slurs at them. The family alleged that he passed by twice in an apparent attempt to provoke a reaction.
The family said that after they did not react to the alleged provocations, the man returned to his home, put on body armor, retrieved an AR-15-style rifle, and came back to the residence. In the video they shared, gunshots can be heard as chaos breaks out and people rush inside for safety. A woman is heard repeatedly screaming, “Oh my God,” as the situation unfolds.
Several members of the family were seen and heard screaming during the incident, and children at the reunion were also crying as the situation escalated. According to the account shared in the video, the men in the family responded by returning fire in self-defense. Another clip showed continued panic inside the home as additional gunshots could be heard outside while the family tried to take cover.
A third video showed exterior camera footage of the home as the man drove by. In the clip, he can be heard using racial slurs toward the family. According to WALB, the man was later injured during the shooting. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office stated that he was transported to the hospital before being taken into custody. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault.
