Only a handful of video game franchises and series have managed to attract the attention of the vast majority of players and create a reputation that will make them recognizable even for non-gamer people. Call of Duty series is among these series that has managed to become one of the most famous and also most profitable video game franchises in recent years. After many years you might wonder who created the Call of Duty series and started everything. Here is the answer.
Who Created the Call of Duty Series
Call of Duty series is not only one of the most famous franchises in the gaming industry but also one of the oldest. Believe it or not, this franchise has been around now for 2 decades, with the first game of the series being released back in 2003.
Call of Duty (2003) was made by a newly formed studio, Infinity Ward, with 21 employees. Most worked on another fantastic first-person shooter called Medal of Honor: Allied Assault.
For the new fans of the Call of Duty series and younger gamers, the Medal of Honor was one of the best first-person shooters before series like Call of Duty or Battlefield was created.
So the idea behind the first Call of Duty game that kicked one of the biggest franchises of video games came from Zied Rieke, lead designer, and Jason West, the senior programmer.

It is also worth noting that the nickname of the Call of Duty project before it was officially named was Medal of Honor Killer. The game was made to deliver something that the Medal of Honor couldn’t, eventually taking the crown of best shooter game from them.
Eventually, Call of Duty came out on October 29, 2003, that received generally positive reviews. The game managed to sell nearly 800 thousand copies only in the United States, which is amazing for a new franchise when video games weren’t popular as now.

The latest game of the Call of Duty franchise, Modern Warfare II, was released last year for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
