The character known as Cindy has been drumming up a lot of speculation for Spider-Man 2 players. She’s a character that you won’t meet until the very end of the game, and her appearance is more of a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo. While the character doesn’t have the grandest debut, many hardcore fans recognize her relationship with the hero Silk. Despite her brief appearances, she is already destined to become a major figure within the video game franchise. Who is Cindy Moon in the Spider-Man comics, and what does her appearance mean for Spider-Man 2?

In the post-credits scenes of Spider-Man 2, Miles Morales is enjoying some quality time with his mother at their apartment. Miles has brought home his girlfriend, while his mother is bringing in her new boyfriend, Albert Moon. Miles and his mother greet Albert at their front door, with the new boyfriend introducing to the group his daughter Cindy. She sheepishly says hello before the game officially cuts to black.

Even though there isn’t much to go on with Cindy’s brief cameo, comic fans recognize her full name – Cindy Moon. The character is actually the superhero known as Silk from the Spider-Man comics.

Silk is a Korean-American superhero who was first introduced in the third volume of The Amazing Spider-Man comics. She was bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his spider powers. Whereas Peter stayed in the real world and became a superhero, Cindy was locked away in a bunker to hide her from a family of supervillains, the Inheritors.

Peter soon discovers the truth and frees her from her imprisonment. She has since adopted the superhero identity of Silk, becoming one of the many spider-based heroes in New York. Her main driving characteristic is about her being a girl out of time, having missed years of her life in the bunker.

In Spider-Man 2, Cindy appears to be closer to Miles’s age than she is to Peter. Given she is still with her father at the end of the game, it’s safe to assume she didn’t spend her life locked away. It appears the Spider-Man video game franchise will give her a brand new origin story. She is potentially being set up as a new Spider-hero for a potential Spider-Man follow-up.
