Who Is Margrace in Final Fantasy 16?
From the very beginning, you will be able to meet a mysterious person who hides his face. He will introduce himself as Lord Margrace, the main character Clive, and thinks he is Ifrit’s Dominant, but he is not. Throughout the story, you will meet him several more times, but to discover Margrace’s true identity, you must defeat Garuda, after which the hidden truth will be revealed.
When you defeat Garuda and save another character from death, namely Gav, you can see Margrace’s true face for the first time. You’ll see a short FF16 cutscene where Margrace and his assistant discuss a plan to visit Phoenix Gate. At one moment, Margrace removes his hood, and you can see a young man with blonde hair. And it’s not just some minor character; you’ll realize it’s Joshua, Clive’s brother, who he thought was dead.
Joshua Rosfield in Final Fantasy 16
Yes, this is the same Clive’s brother everyone thought was dead after the attack at Phoenix Gate. There was a fierce battle that night, and the traitors of Rosaria surrounded Joshua and their father around the Phoenix gate. Their father, Elwin, sacrificed his life so that his son has time to escape while he fends off the enemy attacks.
Seeing his father die, Joshua is frozen in place and unable to do anything. Clive, in turn, rushes to his brother’s aid and sees that he is using the power of Eikon against his enemies. As it was the first time Joshua used the power of his Eikon, but he could not control the phoenix, and it began to consume him. As Clive gets closer, Ifrit, the second Eikon of fire, stands in his way and eventually attacks the phoenix. A fierce battle ensues, during which one might think that Joshua dies in the end, but he does not. With the help of the phoenix’s power, he regains his strength and continues his story as Margrace in FF16.
Joshua’s Objectives in Final Fantasy 16
Many people could have guessed that Joshua was not dead because the Phoenix Eikon is almost impossible to kill because of its regeneration abilities. As it turned out, after the battle, the Knights of the Undying rescued the boy and cared for him for years. Growing up, he decided to go unnoticed, thus becoming Lord Margrace. Wandering the world, he set himself two main goals, namely:
- Find out how his brother Clive can absorb Eikon’s energy.
- His second objective is to find out the secret of Blight’s existence. Because of this deadly phenomenon, once prosperous countries are beginning to decline. The Blight sucks the life force out of everything, leaving only a pile of spoiled soil. This worries Joshua, so he searches for the problem’s source.
The Reconciliation of Joshua and Clive
We’ve already talked about how you first came to know Joshua, but the main reconciliation between the main characters happens during the battle against Ultima when you defeat Typhon. Joshua will rush to help Clive in this battle using his Eikon, Phoenix. Then the two brothers work together to fight off the enemy and escape. After this battle, Clive and Joshua team up to fulfill a common goal: the destruction of the Mothercrystals that threaten Valisthea.
