Briar, the new Jungle Champion and 165th playable character of League of Legends, is scheduled to enter Summoner’s Rift at the end of September 2023. After the outstanding eye candy that was the Briar Cinematic, “Feeding Frenzy,” League players are undoubtedly eager to know more about this bloodthirsty yet lovable new fiend. When players heard Briar’s voice for the first time, many likely thought the actor or actress involved was Sarah Anne Williams, Jinx’s in-game VA. After all, the adorable and murderous miscreant’s vocal quality does give off that wild and anarchic vibe.
Julie Nathanson Revealed as League of Legends Briar Voice Actor
However, the voice actor of Briar in League of Legends is not Sarah, as some might have assumed. Instead, the reveal of the VA comes courtesy of the dev team’s “Champions Insight: Briar” from the official League website. Briar is voiced by Julie Nathanson, a name you might have seen in multiple video games and animated series.
Julie Nathanson’s most notable role at the current time is Disney’s Princess Belle, which is quite the contrast with a character like Briar. Julie voices this iconic princess in Disney Dreamlight Valley. She is also the individual behind Samantha Maxis in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Tsukino Saotome in Judgment. Her portfolio is quite extensive, as she’s worked in well-known franchises like World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Halo, Fallout, and many more.
The dev team felt Julie was the perfect voice actor for Briar in LoL. In the Champions Insight post mentioned above, they expressed,
“Much of that power and personality was brought to life through her voice actor, Julie Nathanson. We felt so much better when we found Julie as our actor, She was so great for giving us different kinds of reads for every line. It was actually hard to choose sometimes which ones we should pick for the game. She helped us find the perfect balance with Briar’s newfound personality and her frenzied state.”
After watching the “Feeding Frenzy” cinematic on the League of Legends YouTube, we also agree that Julie Nathanson is definitely nailing the expressive nature of this charming yet fiendish Champion. As mentioned above, Briar will come out in LoL around the end of September 2023, which is when Patch 13.19 is released.
