After a tough and adventurous journey, a fan-favorite contestant and his pro emerge winners of the Dancing With the Stars season 33, snagging the coveted mirrorball at the finale. It’s been a heated week for all contestants of the ABC show, amid heightened anticipation for the final winners of the coveted Mirrorball. The showrunners made it an even tougher wait after declaring that all five DWTS semifinalists would make it into the season 33 finale following the should-have-been elimination rounds last Tuesday, mirroring the same strategy used last year.
With tighter competition on the horizon, the finalists, including Olympians Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik, NFL wide receiver Danny Amendola, The Bachelor season 28 leading man Joey Graziadei, and actress Chandler Kinney, as well as their respective DWTS pros doubled their efforts to emerge first among five, culminating in an epic grand finale.
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson Become Dancing With the Stars Season 33 Finale Winners
The DWTS season 33 finale took off on Tuesday night, with each final pair performing a redemption dance handpicked by the judges and a freestyle routine. Dancing With the Stars contestant Joey Graziadei, 29, and his pro dance partner Jenna Johnson, 30 emerged as the season’s winners, taking home the Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy. The pair earned their win from a combination of judges’ scores, and votes from viewers during the semi-finals and finals. Asked what becoming one of the DWTS season 33 winners meant to him, Joey quipped,
“It means everything. This whole experience has been unbelievable. Honestly, everyone from the beginning, Ilona, you have been amazing this season, I love you, all the finalists in it, the judges, thank you for bearing with us, I tried my best, I promise!”
In second place was Ilona Maher and pro partner Alan Bersten, while Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong came in third. Stephen Nedoroscik with partner Rylee Arnold and the pair of Danny Amendola and Witney Carson took fourth and fifth place respectively.
DWTS Contestants Snagged Nearly Perfect Scores During Redemption Rounds
Each dance pair graced the ballroom for a redemption dance chosen by the judges, before their creative freestyle performances. For their Redemption dance, Stephen and Rylee performed I’ll Be There For You by The Remembrands, snagging 29/30 (10, 9, 10).
Dancing With the Stars season 33 winners Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson made a perfect 30/30 with their Cha Cha performance to Justin Timberlake’s CAN’T STOP THE FEELING. Next on the lineup, Danny and Witney performed a Redemption tango to Post Malone’s I Had Some Help, scratching a 27, nine points from each judge.
Ilona and Alan delighted the audience and viewers with their Jive performance to Shake a Tail Feather by Ray Charles and The Blue Brothers, also finishing with a score of 27, nine points from each judge. Emanating black excellence, Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong performed a Jive to APT, a number by ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, receiving a perfect score of 10 from each judge.
DWTS Freestyle Dancing Scores and Grand Totals
During the Freestyle rounds, Stephen and Rylee opened the stage with their dance rendition of Viva La Vida by Coldplay. Their performance earned them a perfect 30/30, bringing up their grand total to 112 points. Dancing With the Stars finale winners Joey and Jenna performed a Freestyle to Canned Heat by District 78 ft. Jake Simpson at the finale scoring 29 (9, 10, 10). This bumped their grand total for the night to 117.
Danny and Witney proved themselves worthy contenders with their Freestyle to Lizzo’s Pink, and Ryan Goslin’s I’m Just Ken, matching up their pink costumes to fit the part. They ended up with a score of 29, (9, 10, 10). The pair finished in fifth place during the Dancing With the Stars finale, with a grand score of 110. Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten snagged a perfect 10 across the board with their Freestyle to Femininomenon by District 78 ft Mona Rue. They wrapped up the finale with 114 points.
Chandler and Brandon rendered their freestyle to Hellzapoppin’ by Eyal Vilner Big Band and Curtis Mayfield’s Move On Up, finishing with their second 30/30 in one night and a grand score of 118 points.
Aside from the electrifying performances from contestants at the season 33 finale, the night saw a slew of performances from upcoming DWTS dance pros, season 32 winners Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy, and some notable contestants from past seasons, giving the Dancing With the Stars season 33 a climactic ending.
