On Wednesday’s edition of The View, Whoopi Goldberg proves that — like the rest of the world — she’s finally done talking about Taylor Swift. Goldberg and her co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, made several compelling points to bite back against critical “incels” for hateful comments towards Taylor Swift’s numerous NFL appearances in support of boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce.
The actress, comedian, and famed EGOT winner playfully collapsed onto The View table after Griffin somehow managed to work the singer-songwriter’s name into a succeeding interview with Argylle actress Bryce Dallas Howard.
“Argylle, as we know, it’s based on a book supposedly written by a novelist named Elly Conway, but there’s a conspiracy theory making the rounds, that Elly Conway is actually a pseudonym for Taylor Swift,” Griffin said.
Her analogy was in reference to a since-debunked theory that Taylor Swift served as the basis for the Argylle‘s narrative. Needless to say, Whoopi Goldberg was endlessly amused by the whole exchange. She came to rest her head on the table and couldn’t contain a burst of laughter, all the while exclaiming, “Oh my God!”
Despite Swift’s name mentioned entirely out of context by Griffin, Howard remained largely unfazed and professional.
“It’s really important, because Taylor Swift is an icon and works very hard on all the things that she creates, and we’d never want to take credit for something she wasn’t part of. So, yes, Taylor Swift did not write Argylle, but none of us have a full understanding of the mystery around Elly Conway,” Howard replied.
“Matthew Vaughn, the director, his daughter heard about this theory about Taylor Swift and rushed into his room and was like, ‘Why did you not tell me that Taylor Swift wrote Argylle, dad? You should at least be able to trust me?’ And he was like, ‘hmm, pardon?’ and went online and saw this.”
Joy Behar, another regular panelist for ABC’s The View, ‘swiftly’ diverted the conversation.
“Alright. Okay, enough with Taylor Swift,” she said. “I mean, we love the girl, but, alright.”
Half of the globe would be lying if we didn’t admit we shared in Behar’s sentiment. Swift has become a huge media focus in recent months due to her highly publicized relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The duo have been at the center of numerous controversies, conspiracy theories, and even an alleged plot to rig the Super Bowl in President Joe Biden’s favor.
Griffin joked on the backend of the discussion that she always works Swift “into every segment.” It was then that the co-hosts segued into a separate talking point. And Howard must have breathed a sigh of relief.
Even the ladies at The View are tired of talking Taylor Swift all the time. We wouldn’t go so far as to say they have “Bad Blood,” though.
