Being Hispanic seems to be getting more difficult each day, even for people in California, because once again, a couple of Hispanic men in the state had their typical parking lot stroll disturbed by a person who was acting strange. To make matters worse, the woman even accused the Hispanic men of being illegal immigrants, asking them xenophobic questions and threatening them with a call from ICE. The weird confrontation has since gone viral.
The incident occurred earlier this week in Laguna Woods, California, and was shared by TikTok user goodgodkaren. In the video, the two allegedly Hispanic men who were recording the encounter can be seen speaking with a wide-eyed woman who seems to be accusing them of something, which was sadly censored in the video since the word wasn’t allowed on TikTok. She did insist on a confirmation from the two Hispanic men, however, following up with “are you?!”
One of the Hispanic men, however, grew puzzled, firing back with his reply, “I don’t understand your line of questioning here; I’m not doing anything to do with politics.” Hence, the woman started threatening them with matching wide, bloodshot eyes, saying, “Then why are you in my country?… Do I need to call ICE?” Because of her appearance during that particular time, the men also suspected her of being on some kind of substance.
Seemingly out of nowhere, however, the woman added that she’s on “oxygen,” reads the Bible, and that she’s a “Child of God” when the two men asked, “What kind of [expletive] are you on?” Ultimately, no one seemed harmed physically in the incident, and the woman just chose to drive away abruptly, ending the confrontation.
People Online Were Weirded Out by the Encounter
Clips of the incident quickly spread online, and it has now accumulated more than 1 million views across two platforms. Comments about the lady ranged from open-mouthed disbelief to outrage over what they presumed to be xenophobic or racist ideals. One of the most popular reposts of the clip even dubbed the woman a “MAGA mama” in California and a certified “Karen.”
Thus, social media users have also assumed the same, with one commenter saying, “She, like many MAGA women, has the dissociative thousand-yard stare of a mother that just drowned her brood in the bath tub because ‘god told her’ it would save their souls.” Others were bewildered at the woman’s stare, wondering how exactly a person randomly accuses and threatens another so casually: “She didn’t blink once.”
In any case, it’s not the first time someone got accused of being an illegal immigrant and threatened with ICE, though the encounter was among the most bizarre. Some of the Christians in the comment section even had to chime in and disown the woman, claiming she doesn’t represent the whole religion, “Reading the bible doesn’t equal relationship with God,” argues an Instagram user.
