As one of Britain’s most powerful celebrity couples, it is no surprise that David and Victoria Beckham have a close bond with the Royal family. The late Queen Elizabeth II knighted the former soccer player in 2003 and David maintained a good relationship with her until she died. Victoria, on the other hand, received her OBE in 2017. Luckily, the Beckhams transferred their bond with the Queen to her son, King Charles III, upon his ascension to the throne.

Over the weekend, David announced his appointment as an Ambassador for The King’s Foundation. He shared the news with an intimate picture of him and King Charles. However, reports suggest the power couple only gained close access to the current Monarch by taking advantage of a lesser royal family member. According to royal biographer Angela Levin, David and Victoria Beckham were initially closer to Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

Levin claims the Beckhams and Yorks were so close that they granted the celebrity couple a huge favor. In 2017, Andrew and Sarah hosted a party for Harper Beckham’s sixth birthday at Buckingham Palace. Unfortunately, the grand gesture backfired when due process wasn’t followed. The author told GB News that Ferguson planned the party “without actually asking for permission,” making other royals angry.

“The Royal Family were absolutely furious about that. But they just felt they’re now not getting on very well, so it was very difficult.”

It seems the birthday incident fractured the Beckhams’ relationship with the royal couple. In 2022, when their son Brooklyn Beckham married Nicola Peltz, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were not invited. Levin claims the retired athlete “turned his attention” to King Charles instead, ending his relationship with the Yorks.

David Beckham seems to have made the right move cultivating a relationship with King Charles as evidenced by his recent ambassadorship. However, Levin maintains that their bond was actually strengthened by shared interests.

“King Charles loves him, they’ve got lots in common now. They both love having bees and making their own honey.’

The royal author also revealed that David Beckham living close to King Charles’ Highgrove residence made their friendship easier. As for the soccer legend’s new role as an Ambassador for The King’s Foundation, Levin declare that “Beckham would be marvellous at helping these people.”
