Kate Middleton‘s cancer recovery journey has her missing yet another important royal event ahead of Trooping the Colour. The Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, following a prolonged absence from public eyes and resulting wild speculation flooding the media. Following her revelation, the palace shared an update, saying the Princess would carry on her break from public duties as she continues to recover. Since then, the royal has made no notable public appearance, even as health updates from the palace become increasingly scarce.
Kensington Palace, on May 30, confirmed the Princess of Wales would miss yet another royal event, fueling concerns for her health. In the statement, the palace, without delving into Kate Middleton’s health or cancer recovery, revealed that she would not attend the traditional Colonel’s Review, which comes up on June 8. The annual event, held one week before the celebrated Trooping the Colour is considered a dress rehearsal of sorts for the the ceremonial parade.
What Kate Middleton Missing the Colonel’s Review Means for the Royal Family
In years past, Kate Middleton has championed the role of Inspecting Officer at the Colonel’s Review. In her stead, Lieutenant General James Bucknall, KCB, CBE, would take on the honor this year. Despite confirming her absence from the dress rehearsals, Kensington Palace failed to disclose whether or not the Princess would make an appearance at the Trooping the Colour on June 15.
Royal commentator Gareth Russel previously weighed in on this possibility. In his statement, he confirmed that the princess would likely attend this year’s event if deemed well enough. However, these prospects could change at a moment’s notice as Kate Middleton continues her cancer recovery.

But with no forthcoming update on her health, there is no telling whether or not her medical team gave her the go-ahead to appear at this year’s event. Regardless, one thing remains certain: Kate Middleton’s appearance at this year’s Trooping the Colour would be a much-needed ray of sunshine for her people.
