Donald Trump continues to be a topic of discussion among the women of The View. Since the Republican candidate emerged as the winner of the November 2024 elections, the women have continuously expressed concerns about his upcoming administration. During Thursday’s episode, co-host Joy Behar got into it while discussing the topic of presidential pardons with Senator John Fetterman.
The Pennsylvania senator broke his silence on Joe Biden‘s recent blanket pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, on felony gun and tax evasion charges. While discussing how the pardon has resulted in criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, Fetterman floated the idea of Donald Trump also getting a pardon of his own. “It’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden’s trial was really politically motivated,” he told Behar. “I also think its true that the trial in New York for Trump, that was politically motivated as well.” The politician backed his shocking idea with the argument that both Hunter’s prosecution and Trump’s“hush money” trial were as a result of a “weaponized” justice system. He bashed the ongoing practice of going after political rivals with lawsuits.
Recall that in May a New York jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts in the hush money trial involving Stormy Daniels. He was convicted of falsifying business records to hide a secret payment to the porn star. Bringing up the president-elect’s conviction and Hunter’s, Fetterman said:
“In both cases, I think a pardon is appropriate. Both of those trials were clearly politically motivated. Those kinds of charges would have never been brought unless one side realized they could weaponize that.”
Joy Behar Speaks About January 6 Capitol Rioters on The View
Unfortunately, Behar couldn’t get on board with Fetterman’s argument, bringing up the January 6 Capitol rioters. Over 1,000 Americans were convicted flor their role in the January 6th, 2021 attack. “They’ll say that about the J6 people too though, right?” she questioned the Democrat. “That’s what they’re going to say on the other side, that that is weaponized also!”
However, Fetterman cleared the air, saying he wasn’t talking about the rioiters. “I’m not referring to that. I’m talking about the New York trial,” he clarified. The 55-year-old noted that several Democrats were “gleeful” about Trump being a convicted felon. He explained that it betrayed the message of giving second chances and criminal justice reform.
“We were talking about criminal justice and we are now talking about second chances and now all of a sudden now you’re, like, well, he’s a convicted felon.”
In conclusion, Fetterman insisted that giving Trump a pardon is the right move. After all, Biden already created a loophole with that of his son’s.
