A spoiler-covered report on the website JoBlo.com claims that DC Comics writer Geoff Johns and actor Ben Affleck are working together for the new, upcoming Batman solo film.
The follow-up to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will reportedly feature the Red Hood and the Joker as villains. The still-untitled Batman movie will be incorporating two of the comics’ famous storylines: “Death in the Family” and “Under the Hood.” In the first storyline, “Death in the Family” features Jason Todd, Batman’s second Robin, who was tortured and eventually killed by the Joker. “Under the Hood” reveals that Todd is alive and resurrected as the Red Hood; Todd seeks vengeance against the Joker for torturing him and Batman for sparing the Joker’s life after he was “killed.”
Inspired by Marvel’s Captain America: Winter Soldier, Warner Bros. is reportedly looking for the Red Hood to be the DC equivalent of Winter Soldier, Captain America’s former friend (played by Sebastian Stan).
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice reportedly alludes to the Red Hood in the movie. Trailers for the movie show Batman, played by Affleck, looking at messages scrawled on his outfit and a newspaper clipping. On the outfit, it reads, “HaHa! Joke’s on you, Batman,” and a newspaper clipping about Wayne Tower being destroyed has the words: “You let your family die.”
But there is more than one Robin. JoBlo reports that Nightwing (Dick Grayson), the first Robin, will play a role in the movie.
No release date is available for the Batman solo film. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will debut on March 26, 2016.
