15 years later through one book and television show, I sit here still recovering from the red wedding. Author George R.R. Martin knows how to make his readers suffer, but is it more the content inside the books? Or maybe it’s the release window surrounding the books themselves that we dread.ย

It’s been 4 years since A Dance with Dragons published, and since that time fans of the Song of Ice & Fire series have been clamoring for the next book, The Winds of Winter. It’s hard to think that once TWoW finally releases, we’ll still have to wait for the last(hopefully!) book, the tentatively titled, A Dream of Spring.ย

Someday...
Someday…

There is some good news, a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Martin has decided to skip some of the upcoming comic-cons ย this year and he’s also refrained from writing an episode for the upcoming 5th season of Game of Thrones on HBO. While it’s disappointing that Martin won’t be able to lend his creative imagination, the clearing of his schedule hopefully means he’s going to focus on finishing The Winds of Winter.ย It’s unlikely that we’ll see the book in 2015, but we don’t know how far along Martin is in writing it. Late 2016 seems the most likely release window as of now, but if that date changes or moves forward, The Nerd Stash willย be sure to announce it.ย

While we all sit at the edge of our seat hoping for an official release date, fans of Martin’s fantasy series can at least look forward to the 5th season of Game of Thrones, premiering April 12.ย
