The things a desperate person will do to escape their problems can indeed be shocking. A driver in Wisconsin barely avoided being seriously or even fatally injured after smashing into a tree. He was allegedly trying to avoid hitting another car, causing him to barrel straight into a tree on the driver’s side. Bleeding from both his forehead and arm, it’s clear he wasn’t in an ideal condition to be driving, yet the man drove off as if nothing were amiss. Unfortunately for him, though, a motorcyclist chased him down and called 911.
“I am okay,” was the first thing the man uttered to the motorcyclist once he managed to pull over. Apparently, the reason he didn’t want to have the accident reported was that he was already in deep trouble, besides almost dying in a car crash, that is. “I have to [go], or I will lose my life forever,” he muttered in a fearful tone. “I will lose my kids.” His comments have gotten online users to believe he is perhaps in a custody battle with an ex-wife. That would make sense, seeing how getting the local cops in Wisconsin called on him would definitely make his situation worse. Many assumed he was also DUI, but apparently that wasn’t the case, according to WXOW 19 News.
The Wisconsin driver “was mailed five tickets amounting to over $1,700. Those tickets include hit and run to property adjacent to a highway, failure to keep a vehicle under control, operating a vehicle without insurance, having a non-registered car, and failing to stop at a stop sign,” the news report states. DUI was not included in his charges, so something else was going on with his mental state that caused him to crash and drive off as if he were going to be alright.
“Damn, $1700 for all of those charges is an absolute steal,” remarked a Redditor. Considering how messed up the guy and his car got, it was rather disturbing that he was being let off fairly lightly, considering how dangerous the incident could have been. Another bizarre thing is that the man later told the cops that he “did not remember what he hit.” All things considered, a concussion from a car accident like that could perhaps result in memory loss. Whatever the case, it’s impressive he thought he could pull the “’tis but a scratch!” card on the motorcyclist despite his worrying injuries, as one Reddit user put it.
