A Wisconsin inmate, serving a life sentence, tried to meet friends on a well-known website meant to reduce recidivism. He, however, was exposed online by a notorious true crime influencer, who detailed the gruesome nature of his crimes: he murdered his parents very graphically.

The exposé of sorts was shared online by the AshKat Podcast, run by Ashley Morris. She is a true-crime influencer with a series of clips exposing crimes committed by inmates listed on WriteAPrisoner.com, a platform that lets them message pen pals. This one in particular garnered 2.9 million views, 223,600 likes, and more than 1,800 comments.

Ashley shared the profile of Wisconsin inmate Chandler Halderson, a 28-year-old man. She read his bio on the website, where he said he was looking to “meet new people and hopefully make a lasting friendship.”

“I enjoy gaming, art, mostly drawing and painting, and working out,” Chandler wrote. “I play soccer in the summer and lift in the winter. When I have free time, I’m usually drawing weird stuff on whatever I can find.”

Chandler then mentioned he “hadn’t had good luck with pen pals,” but he remained hopeful that it could change. After mentioning his struggle with mental health issues, he thanked everyone who looked at his page.

Crimes, Exposed

Ashley then summarized Chandler’s crimes. Back on July 7, 2021, Chandler reported both of his parents, Bart and Christa, missing. At the time, he told the authorities that his parents had gone on a trip but never came back, even though their vehicles were in the driveway.

After giving odd excuses, the authorities eventually found the remains of Bart and Christa. They had been murdered and dismembered, right after Bart discovered that his son had been lying about going to college, Ashley said.

The Wisconsin man was subsequently arrested and eventually convicted of two counts of intentional homicide, among other charges. He was given two life sentences without the possibility of parole on March 17, 2022.

Reactions

The video sparked multiple reactions when viewers were left aghast by how someone like Chandler could be meeting people online. One person said, “How’s he allowed to message people?” Another one said, “He lost his rights to be able to mix with the public in any way. This shouldn’t be allowed.”

Others took a more “relaxed” approach to Ashley’s clip. One viewer wrote, “This is why I don’t date. His profile has me interested.” Another one added, “Dude has more hobbies than me, and I’m free.”
