Yesterday, security guards at an Eid event at New York City Hall removed a protestor who had questioned Council Member Eric Dinowitz. Dinowitz’s defense of Israel and the Palestinian genocide has drawn criticism from many on the left. American politicians standing with Israel was a thing long before Donald Trump. Between the escalating bloodshed in Gaza and the increasing restrictions on free speech in America, it’s no wonder that many are speaking out while they can. In a video documenting the event, the woman who was removed from the Eid event at the NYC town hall says she was invited there. It didn’t stop them from ejecting her if that’s the case.
Security Removes NYC Protestor From City Hall
The protestor put her objection to the Council Member’s presence bluntly. “Why is he [Dinowitz] speaking at our Eid event if he supports the murder of innocent Muslims that are family members of ours?” A security guard intervened right away, attempting to silence the woman. Soon after, he and other guards escorted the protestor out of the event. “You’re trying to silence a Muslim woman-” the protestor told security. When the guard denied that, the protestor pointed out an undeniable fact: “You literally escorted me out.“
A Reddit post by u/_II_I_I__I__I_I_II_ about the New York City Hall incident received over 500 likes and numerous supportive comments. One commenter summed up those who watched security eject the protestor, saying, “room full of boot lickers. With boot licker security. [Sic]” Another commenter criticized the city hall Eid events in general, saying,
Nobody should attend these Eid events/iftar events. They’re organised by Islamophobes and genocide abetters They should be empty.
Protestors confronting politicians in city halls across the U.S.? That’s a common sight these days. The City Hall Eid event in NYC is far from the first place to eject a protestor for questioning the government. Since neither the U.S. nor Israel seems interested in deviating from their current paths, ejections like this won’t be the last.
