“Protect your people because the government certainly won’t,” Instagram user Britt Boril remarks in a viral video post involving an interaction with Wyoming legislator Tim French. In an act of malicious compliance, Boril calls the politician “Madam Chairman” in protest of legislation that opposes the use of ‘preferred pronouns,’ claiming that “compelled speech is not free speech.”
“You need to call me Mister Chairman if you want,” French said in response to being intentionally misgendered. “Well, I cannot be ‘compelled’ to use your preferred pronouns,” Boril sarcastically corrects the legislator. “We’re talking about preferred pronouns. A lot of people are,” the politician shot back, trying to take control of the dialogue. However, he ended his comment with a fatal mistake: “I prefer to be called Chairman French. That’s my preferred pronoun.”
Needless to say, the irony of Tim French’s statement is that he has a ‘preferred pronoun’ despite voting for legislation against the concept. “You all voted that preferred pronouns be compelled speech in SF77,” Boril argued back, “Anyway, my name is Britt Boril.” And the internet couldn’t get enough of that finishing remark. “The ‘anyway’ hits so damn hard 😂” exclaims one TikTok user. “‘Anyway’ 💅💅 Brit you dropped this 👑,” comments another. “Literally the greatest “- anyway…” in all of human history 🙌” chimes in a third.
Plenty more commenters point out the hypocrisy of the Wyoming politician voting for SF77 despite telling Boril that he has his own. “If you voted against preferred pronouns, then you can’t insist on a preference. Not hard to understand,” notes one viewer. “‘Chairman French’ is a title, not a pronoun, so they don’t even know the definition of a pronoun.” seconds another. “This woman is a savage!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Hit ’em with reverse card in Uno!” chuckles another commenter.
While the ‘viral’ part of Britt Boril’s post ended on their “anyway” finisher, they actually didn’t stop their protest there. In the original Instagram post, Boril went on to speak of the dangers of such legislation, explaining how it invades the privacy of women, transgender people, and those who are intersex. OP claims that there are over a dozen bills that the Wyoming body has heard that do nothing but target and strip rights and healthcare from women and trans people. They argue that there are more pressing matters to be focusing on instead of harassing a 1% demographic. “Please vote no. And please, for the love of our great state, do your jobs,” Boril concluded.
