Ah, console wars. Specifically the ones between Playstation and Sony vs. Xbox. We all were at a point – especially when we were younger and arguing with our friends who had opposing consoles – where we found ourselves in at least one debate over who had the better console. Which console had the best games. What was the best entertainment system, etc. All die hard gamerheads have obsessed over such questions but really, were we ever smart to have such debates? Phil Spencer does not think so. In fact, Spencer pretty much thinks that this whole console war mess that’s been stewing the past few years is dumb.
Per some new comments made by Spencer, the man spoke on why he thinks that competition has no effect or impact on Microsoft’s approach to gaming nor does it have much effect on the gaming industry itself. “I’m always listening to the community, but the people who want to see others fail in order for the green team to succeed – that’s not me,” Spencer started to explain. He would continue further in depth. “There were people, when the Sony deal was announced, I could see it online saying ‘what are you doing helping them out?”
Spencer went even further by talking about his company’s relationship with Sony. Microsoft and Sony have spoken before about their new partnership together, but for this latest forum, Spencer took the time to talk about how Microsoft has “had years and years of a relationship with Sony. Sony shipped PCs and they had Windows on it; they use our development tools to build games. This idea that the only way for any of us to succeed is by pulling down someone else just isn’t the way that the industry works today. It just isn’t.” He’s got a point. Rather than pit consoles against each other, just enjoy what you enjoy.
