The free games available with an Xbox Live Gold subscription have been announced for August. Subscribers to the service are in for a good month as Gears of War 4 and Forza Motorsports 6 are among the free titles available for the month.

Xbox

Gears of War 4 is a third-person action shooter that contains a solid campaign that can be played both singleplayer and co-op. Gears of War 4 also boasts a substantial multiplayer experience to boot. This was likely chosen for this month to generate hype surrounding the upcoming Gears 5 which launches later this year on Sep 10. Gears of War 4 does focus on the main playable character in Gears 5, so fans who are looking for a good jumping-in point will find a lot to enjoy here. Gears of War 4 will be available on Xbox One from August 1 to the 31.

The second exciting game available during August is Forza Motorsports 6. This realistic racing title is a real graphical powerhouse for those looking to be immersed in the supercar of their dreams. The Motorsport series shouldn’t be confused with the Horizon series as the former focuses more on being a realistic racing sim as the other is more of an open world racing playground. Forza Motorsports 6 will be available from August 16 through the end of the month on Xbox One.

Xbox Games with Gold

As always, Microsoft throws in a couple of Xbox 360 titles every month on top of the free Xbox One offerings. This month, Torchlight and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will be free with an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Neither title is particularly standout, but they are fun additions to an already packed month of free titles for the Xbox platform.
