Xbox Live Gold has become synonymous with owning an Xbox console. The service has been live for over 20 years, and it seems it is finally being replaced. This is likely an attempt by the publisher to make Xbox subscriptions easier to understand. The Xbox Live Gold subscription will soon be incorporated into the now pricier Game Pass, namely the “Core” tier.
The transition will occur in September, and once that happens, everyone who is subscribed to Xbox Live Gold will be moved to the Game Pass Core subscription. The service used to cost $9.99, which will remain the same even on the Core Tier. But this isn’t just a name swap, because what you were used to getting from your subscription will change, albeit not completely.
Xbox Games With Gold & Game Pass Core Features
A Core subscription will be required for anyone who wants to go online. And those who are subscribed will get special discounts only available to Game Pass subscribers before this change. But the most notable difference is that subscribers will no longer get monthly games, which might be a massive bummer for most fans. Instead, they will be given access to a collection of 25 Game Pass titles, and Microsoft promises that the list will continue to grow. You can see some of the games with the Core tier below:
- Among Us
- Descenders
- Dishonored 2
- DOOM Eternal
- Fable Anniversary
- Fallout 4
- Fallout 76
- Forza Horizon 4
- Gears 5
- Grounded
- Halo 5: Guardians
- Halo Wars 2
- Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
- Human Fall Flat
- INSIDE
- Ori and the Will of the Wisps
- Psychonauts 2
- State of Decay 2
- The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited
Xbox Live Gold subscribers do not need to worry, however, since the games they have claimed will remain on their account indefinitely. But it is worrying to see that people will not get free games tied to their accounts after this change.
