One of the most disappointing news items we heard this week was definitely Game Pass’ price increase, which is something you do tend to see once every few years on services such as this. Xbox always aimed to offer a cheap way to access hundreds of games, but after the latest price increase, some users stated that the service isn’t affordable anymore. Even though it’s the first time we’re seeing a price hike for Game Pass, global inflation and various factors pushed Microsoft to make the decision. As some Xbox users say, the latest price hike won’t be good for the service, and they already started discussing its future.
The Game Pass Price Started Being Expensive For Some Xbox Users
As we shared this week, the standard Game Pass price has increased to $10.99 from $9.99 monthly. And the Ultimate plan’s price has increased to $16.99 from $14.99. As reported by ComicBook, fans are concerned with more than just the rising price, but also the the games’ quality in the library is also a problem. Considering you’re paying approximately $20 for a subscription with Ultimate, it could make more sense to get a game you love for $60 instead of being subscribed to a catalog you can’t control.
Since PS Plus evolved into a similar service to Game Pass, the competition between the two brands is even more hot. Before the PS Plus libraries and price hikes made on Xbox, the platform was a cheaper solution in the long term. But there’s no big difference left between the two consoles economically. It’s also worth noting that all fault doesn’t belong to Microsoft; the global inflation and the rate of adoption into the new generation still keep users from wanting to pay more for games. Xbox will need to prove their service is worth the new price with their upcoming first-party lineup.
