Developer Firaxis and publisher 2K have announced the release date of the XCOM 2, the sequel to the recently relaunched XCOM series. The game release date has been set for February 5th, 2016. The game is set 20 years after the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown in the scenario where humanity lost to the aliens and the council of nations surrendered. Earth is now being controlled by a puppet government named ADVENT, and you play the same role as the one you did in XCOM: Enemy Unknown: ‘The Commander’.
The game looks impressive from the footage 2K has released and the recommended specifications look quite hefty for a turn based strategy game:
Recommended System Requirements:
OS: Windows® 7, 64-bit
Processor: 3GHz Quad Core
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: 2GB ATI Radeon HD 7970, 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 or better
Storage: 45 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card
XCOM 2 will be released on PC, Mac and Linux and will use the same gameplay mechanics as the original. The XCOM command base has been replaced with a repurposed alien supply ship and players will now fight against mixed AVENT human and alien forces at the same time, something not seen in XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
The game will also have Steam Workshop access, and tools which will allow players to create, share and expand their experience with other players. They will also be including a player vs player mode where players can fight against each other.
The game is on pre-order and is retailing on Steam for $59.99 which you can pre-purchase below. A Digital Deluxe Edition which will include a Season Pass style of DLC releases and the game’s soundtrack is also available!
