GTA 6 is a hot topic right now, more so because of its price tag of $80 for the base version and $100 for the Ultimate (and ideal) Edition. While many have complained about the pricing, influencer and gaming streamer xQc is apparently on a crusade to defend Rockstar Games’ pricing for GTA 6, and the discussion has even escalated to the streamer insulting his viewers for supposedly wasting their money on him.
The rather viral “crashout” occurred in xQc’s latest stream on June 25th. Earlier during the stream, xQc, aka Félix Lengyel, had spoken out against the chunk of the GTA community who find the $80 price tag too high, hypothesizing that people would still complain even if the price was set to $30. Lengyel’s viewers, however, argued that he is “too rich to understand what this means for brokies.”
Another viewer even summarized their economic situation, claiming they’re a “minimum wage McDonald worker, I can’t afford it.” At that point, Lengyel started erratically thumping his chair, rebuking the viewer about how they “donated $5 to a streamer and now you can’t [expletive] but it [GTA 6] because you’re [expletive] stupid.”
Lengyel, for the record, has an estimated net worth of $36 million to $50 million USD and owns a mansion in Canada. The streamer has reasoned that GTA 6‘s price tag is fair due to its hype and that people should “move on” from the fact that Rockstar Games is keeping content behind a $20 paywall in the Ultimate Edition and isn’t including physical discs.
People online find both sides right
Funny enough, social media users who have witnessed xQc’s now viral meltdown about GTA 6 are criticizing both him and his viewers who kept donating to him. On one hand, some users agree with the complaints that “Rockstar shouldn’t be locking storymode content behind more expensive editions, whilst those editions ALREADY COST $100+ DOLLARS.”
On the other hand, some commenters were baffled at how and why “the brokest people are the ones donating to streamers.” Others, however, have called out Lengyel for his rather contradictory behavior, especially as a streamer, “the irony of calling someone out for donating while complaining about a paywall is pretty thick.”
Another commenter echoed a similar sentiment, “I dont know what is worse the so called professional streamers who will do & say anything to get subscribers even taking advantage of some viewers or the ignorant viewers who keep making the worst people so called ‘famous.'”
In any case, discussions and arguments regarding GTA 6‘s price and Ultimate Edition content are not about to stop any time soon. In the past, Lengyel has also made some controversial statements about GTA 6, suggesting that it should cost $800 due to its potential to deliver thousands of hours of content, meaning it supposedly has several times the value of standard $70 or $80 games. That remains to be seen.
