After a lengthy amount of time of people wondering if Kevin Costner would stay in Yellowstone, we have a definitive answer. Paramount is ending Yellowstone after season 5 and will develop a sequel series. This comes after reports of it concluding last month but was not made official. The final season will begin this November, with the untitled follow-up arriving in December.
A part of the shift in the series, leading to the ending of Yellowstone, comes down to multiple reports about Costner having a conflict with creator Taylor Sheridan. On one side, it has been reported about a fallout between them, with the two clashing during production in previous seasons. Other reports contradict it, as the leading star has had a conflict in his schedule to shoot his Western epic Horizon: An American Saga. The actor will star in and direct the Western film.
Yellowstone Ending After Season 5, Sequel Series Coming
The expansion of the series is no surprise for the company. Paramount has invested heavily in Sheridan’s world with prequels 1883 and 1923. The sequel series has no details regarding the plot or cast. Reportedly, Matthew McConaughey is in talks to join the show.
Yellowstone ending comes in when Paramount Plus has been revving up. The streamer has put money on various Star Trek spinoffs, Tulsa King, the Criminal Minds revival Evolution, the iCarly revival, and the adaption of the Xbox video game franchise Halo. It is not the only one to have a flagship series end, as HBO is seeing the end of Barry and Succession, and Apple is running the final outing for Ted Lasso.
Sheridan is keeping busy with Paramount. While running his Yellowstone universe, he has Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown. The upcoming confirmed projects he is developing include Lioness, Land Man, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
