Time travel is, quite frankly, a difficult concept to get right. Most of the time, it’s either underdeveloped and feels glossed over, or its overdeveloped and confusing for viewers. Very few games or shows have got it right, but the ones that do use it to great effect. Games like Dishonored 2 and Quantum Break are prime examples of that. Blowfish Studios’ partner studio, Bitmap Galaxy, is ready to become one of those games. Yestermorrow, a time travelling 2D platformer from the said studio, releases November 5th for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The beautiful release date trailer can be found below.

YesterMorrow puts you in the shoes of Greta, a young girl with the ability to time travel. Using this power, she must travel to ancient civilizations to discover their link to this ancient artform. Along the way, she’ll visit China, Victorian England, Turkey, Indonesia, and many more places! Each time period has its own art style and mechanics, offering unique experiences at every turn. To help her traverse these unknown landscapes, Greta manipulates light to her will to create and remove platforms to her advantage. How you use this power and the path you take is up to you.

Time travel plays a central role in not only the setting, but also the gameplay of YesterMorrow. Her time traveling power lets her switch between two time periods in the game’s various areas. These open up new possibilities for platforming, which works well into one of the game’s other signature mechanics. Agility is the key, as compared to the combat you’d expect from platformers. She’ll have to use momentum and quick thinking to overcome various obstacles.

Whether these unique mechanics work well in the gameplay of YesterMorrow remains to be seen. You’ll have to wait until November 5th to find out for yourself. In the meantime, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this premise. Does YesterMorrow sound unique to you? Will you join Greta on her journey across the ages? Let me know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!!
