YouTuber and Twitch Streamer Matthew Meredith, better known as Caffcast, had today been sacked from the Yogscast. This comes after several allegations that Meredith abused his power as a content creator to sexually harass several women.
Yogscast CEO Mark “Turps” Turpin confirmed these allegations were true in a Reddit post. His statement on this unfortunate discovery reads as follows:
Earlier today I was notified of serious allegations made against Caff and his conduct with particular members of his audience. As you know, the Yogscast expects the highest levels of professionalism from its talent and that it is central to the company and its ethos that our fans and community are considered first. Having reviewed the evidence and carefully considered this situation, we have concluded that Caff’s conduct is a material breach of our talent agreements and code of conduct that results in us terminating his relationship with the Yogscast effective immediately. We have removed his channels from our YouTube CMS and have requested Twitch remove his channels from association with the Yogscast. He is no longer part of the Yogscast collective.
This news has caused great upset and shock amongst both Yogscast fans and creators. Hannah Rutherford, the owner of the YogsLomadia channel, was particularly upset having often been a part of collaborations involving Meredith.
No f*cking words for this. To have been unknowingly complicit and used for access to viewers is something I have always stood against and always will whenever it is in my power to make a change. Am making all content with him unlisted. Don’t watch our sh*t on his channel.
This isn’t the first time a Yogscast content creator has been accused of sexual offenses. Paul “Sjin” Sykes got called out by his ex-girlfriend for allegedly asking for inappropriate images from minors. This was later debunked and thought to be a classic case of a jealous ex-girlfriend as she was released from her job “to avoid going bankrupt.” The other instance involved Steven “Ridgedog” Goates impregnating a fan which resulted in his contract not being renewed.
Turpin’s clear leadership and authority to deal with this situation quickly is a sign that things have changed. Regardless of The Yogscast’s history, this time around few will criticize how well they’ve dealt with this. Meredith’s YouTube career is effectively over and his ties to the Yogscast are being burnt by the second.
