If all the console wars and clashes are over one day, we might get to see PlayStation controllers work on Xbox and the other way around. Xbox is willing to take some steps by allowing PS to have their once-upon-a-time exclusive titles like Forza. And right now, there’s an app in the Xbox Microsoft Store that allows players to connect their DualSense controller to their Xbox Series XlS.

Technically, there are 3 ways to connect a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller to an Xbox. You can stream your game with Xbox’s cloud gaming and then play the games with whatever controller you like. Or, you can go ahead and loosen your wallet to buy an adapter that’ll connect your PS5 controller to the Xbox. The third option, however, doesn’t require any extra payment or cloud gaming.

There’s an app in the Xbox Microsoft Store now called the Oberon. The developer of the app has posted a video on Reddit, showcasing how the application works on Xbox Series XlS, and it seems fine. The only downside to this is that you’ll need a third-party device like a phone or PC to connect your controller to the Xbox console.

You can read a full in-depth guide about this on the developer’s page here on Github, but the way the app works is basically simple. You’ll need to download the OberonRemote app on your PC/Laptop, and then head over to your Xbox console’s store page and download the same app from there. Both devices must be connected to the same network/Wi-Fi in order to do the next steps.

  1. On the Xbox app, select “Add Remote.”
  2. Open the app on your PC and note the IP address.
  3. Type in the IP address in Oberon’s Xbox app.
  4. Select and pair your device.

It’d have been so much better if PlayStation and Xbox provided support on connecting the controller of our choice to whichever console we want, but until that happens, if it happens, this is one of the few choices we have. It could be useful for the players who enjoy couch gaming with friends and want an extra controller, or maybe the folks who feel better using the DualSense for competitive gaming.
