The young man, Maxime, spoke about a brief interaction with the mayor that turned into a discussion about repairing the city’s park infastructure.
Commenters celebrated the interaction as an example of local government actually listening to residents, with several suggesting Maxime might have a political future of his own. Others focused on Momdani, praising the mayor for turning a conversation with a child into tangible action rather than simply making promises.
The video centers on Maxime discussing improvements he had previously asked Mayor Zohran Mamdani to make, with the young resident getting an opportunity to speak about seeing that work come together.
In the video, you can hear Maxime speak on how he had recorded a video for Mayor Mamdani some months ago concerning reopening a park in McKinley Park. He says, “It had been closed for almost two years. But, guess what? A few weeks later, the park was finally open.”
According to the NY Office of the Mayor, this is part of the “Renew Crew” that is expected to bring faster repairs and better parks for New Yorkers. Within the speech given at Glendale, a neighborhood in Queens, he says, “To the rest of New York, if you see something broken in your own park, do not hesitate to call 311. The days of those kinds of complaints collecting dust for months are no longer. And to every kid who’s ever called themselves captain of that ship or gotten a whole playground reopened like Maxime did for McKinley Park, now you have a crew of your own. Thank you.“
For Maxime, the politics surrounding the mayor appeared to have taken a backseat to something much simpler: he asked his local government for something and then got to see something done about it.
